OBJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMAGE SESSION

NGC 6178 is a small but relative bright open star cluster in the southern east side of the constellation of Scorpius, close to the limits of Ara and Norma. Despite it is very easy to see in the DSS image, NGC 6178 is a poorly studied Open Custer. Unfortunately there are not much colour images in the web of NGC 6178.

The object is located in a dense star field area on the plane of the Milky Way which is also surrounded by dark clouds. This open cluster was catalogued by English astronomer Sir John Frederick Herschel in 1834 from Cape Town, South Africa.
