OBJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMAGE SESSION
An area of Dark and Emission Nebula all together. SL-17 and a partial view of RCW 113 or Gum 55 which is a much larger emission structure around open star cluster NGC 6231. Dark nebulae, also known as absorption nebulae, are clouds of gas and dust so dense that they block visible light from stars and other nebulae located behind them, creating the appearance of dark patches or voids in the sky. These nebulae are characterized by high concentrations of dust grains that absorb or scatter incoming light.
